Ragtown was a name often applied to an ephemeral settlement around mining or lumber towns. Many are ghost towns or little more than some ephemera along the side of a deserted dirt road. Mining towns were often dry. So ragtowns provided gambling and liquor and in the terms of the day horizontal refreshment. Mines in the west number in the thousands. Most are unknown. People for centuries have gotten lost never to return. Presumed lost in mine shafts.
These mines sit unsecured and dangerous except in a few cases. Aerojet would use one south of (ghost town) Ludlow, Ca for unobserved rocket engine tests. The vernacular of ragtown, soiled dove's, crinoline, cancan, booze and gambling as the wind howled. Aerojet rocket tests in said mines years later. The idea of hypergolic fluid.
